About Trustee Hormuth

Trustee Hormuth earned his B.S. from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1977, his O.D. in 1979, and his M.D. from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1983. He completed his general surgery residence at Methodist Hospital of Indiana from 1983-1988, and his cardiothoracic residency at Medical College of Wisconsin from 1988-1990. He earned his MBA in Business of Medicine at Indiana University Kelley School of Business in 2015.
Hormuth was a cardiothoracic transplant surgeon at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis from 1990-2014, was co-owner of Advanced Cardiothoracic Consultants from 2014-2020, and more recently the chief quality officer for XVIVO Transplant Recovery Services. He served as chairman of the Executive Transplant Policy Committee, leading this integrated program to become the fourth most active transplant program in the U.S., and as director of Cardiac Transplantation leading the first cardiac transplant program in Indiana. Hormuth served on the steering committee and was the codirector for the master’s course in lung transplantation, the first master’s course in this field.
Hormuth has been recognized professionally by his peers among the Top Doctors in Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery in Indiana as well as in America. Indiana University bestowed several honors for his dedicated service, including the Bicentennial Medal of Honor, induction into the Academy of Alumni Fellows in the Kelley School of Business, and the Spirit of Philanthropy Award.
Hormuth is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, the Society for Thoracic Surgery, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association as well as the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation.
