Trustee Kelsey E. Binion was appointed to the IU Board of Trustees by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb for a two year term, 2021-2023. Currently she is pursuing a PhD at IUPUI in Health Communication with a minor in Medical Humanities and Health Studies. Trustee Binion earned her M.A. in Applied Communication at IUPUI in 2019 and is an adjunct faculty member in Communication Studies.
Currently, Trustee Binion serves as a research assistant in pediatrics and pediatrics urology at the IU School of Medicine. She collaborates with principal investigators for National Institutes of Health grants and analyzes data, conducts focus groups, and reviews health communication materials provided to patients.
She has held numerous student leadership roles including serving as president of the IUPUI Graduate and Professional Student Government. During her presidency, she greatly increased collaborations between graduate and undergraduate students. This has led to addressing campus issues such as student mental health, well-being, and food security. Trustee Binion has received numerous awards during her graduate studies including the IUPUI Graduate School Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award, Elite 50 – Premier 10 Award, and the IUPUI Communication Studies’ Top Graduate Paper.
In her role as Student Trustee, Trustee Binion convenes the All-University Student Association, which facilitates discussion of university-wide student issues.
